"Thierry’s latest acquisition, the Clos de l'Echelier is a 2 ha clos on which Thierry had his eyes set since he arrived in Saumur. He finally bought it in 2011. L'Echelier is a limestone-rich vineyard that produces wonderful red wines and a small amount of distinctive whites. There is just 10 cm of top soil, a bit of sand and clay, then Turonian limestone; there is practically no soil to be seen, just rock. Olivier Poussier, the world’s top sommelier, called this cuvée the Chambolle-Musigny of the Loire. Only 1 gr of sulfites added at bottling." -- from the importer
