2014 Santenay VV Thomas Morey

In 2006, Thomas Morey decided to set up his own domaine with his wife Sylvie.Santenay Vieilles Vignes comes from vines in the lieu dit "Prorons dessus", a plot with excellent exposure, lying immediately below the famous "Clos de Tavannes", best of Santenay's 1er crus. The vines were planted in the late fifties. The Santenay village appellation comprises 180 ha of vines spread among various slopes surrounding the village at altitudes ranging from 220 to 400 metres. This cuvee has very perfumed nose, more like Chassagne than your typical rustic Santenay.

2014 Saumur-Champigny "Franc de Pied" Dom. des Roches Neuves

Germain took the risky approach of planting a small portion of his vineyard with own-rootstock vines, known in French as "franc de pied". These non-grafted Cabernet Franc vines were planted in sandy soil, which naturally resists the development of phylloxera, with a planting density of 10,000 vines/hectare and are pruned in gobelet en echalas (on stakes as in the ancient vineyards of Mt Etna). The soil is worked with a horse because at this density it is impossible to use mechanized equipment.Annual production 80 cases

2014 Saumur-Champigny 'Clos de l' Echelier' Dom. des Roches Neuves

"Thierry’s latest acquisition, the Clos de l'Echelier is a 2 ha clos on which Thierry had his eyes set since he arrived in Saumur. He finally bought it in 2011. L'Echelier is a limestone-rich vineyard that produces wonderful red wines and a small amount of distinctive whites. There is just 10 cm of top soil, a bit of sand and clay, then Turonian limestone; there is practically no soil to be seen, just rock. Olivier Poussier, the world’s top sommelier, called this cuvée the Chambolle-Musigny of the Loire. Only 1 gr of sulfites added at bottling." -- from the importer

2015 Chiroubles Lafarge-Vial Magnum

"Lafarge, biodynamics, Gamay, granite – sounds like a match made in heaven n’est ce-pas? As if managing the Lafarge family’s iconic domaine in Volnay wasn’t enough, Frédéric and Chantal Lafarge decided in spring 2014 to embark on a new adventure a little further south. Still Burgundy but a new sector, a new grape variety and the inspiring Beaujolais Cru terroirs that come with it. What’s perhaps most beautiful about the new project is that the couple really wanted to invest in something together that would be entirely their own creation. This equal partnership is reflected in the inclusion of both of their names for the domaine’s title and on the label (Vial is Chantal’s maiden name)." -- importer Becky Wasserman
